Update: Latest on ’14th Avenue’ baby

Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital refuses to give information.

Despite several attempts, the Record has not been able to trace the whereabouts of the newborn baby that was abandoned in 14th Avenue on Saturday.

None of the emergency services had any records of taking an abandoned baby to any hospital. According to Leratong Hospital they did not have such an entry in their records and Helen Joseph Hospital referred the Record to Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital (formerly Coronation Hospital), saying the baby most likely was taken there. Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital refused to give the information.

NG Welfare Roodepoort agreed to help find the baby.

Meanwhile the community poured out their sentiments of sadness and anger on Facebook and other social media platforms. A woman from Cape Town offered to adopt the baby or at least take care of her until a proper home was found.

“Here I am, a mother who would love to have a baby and has problems doing so and then you get evil women like this who has no problems whatsoever to have a baby and then does this. She should get punished. She is pure evil,” wrote another woman.

The Record will continue its pursuit to find out where the baby was taken to.
