The South African Road Agency issued a statement about the reduced e–toll bills for motorists.
The lowered fees will only apply during the grace period where road users will receive a special 60 per cent discount, that expires on 2 May 2016.
Sanral spokesperson Vusi Mona said that in spite of the 60 per cent discount, motorists are required to adhere to the recently proposed requirements.
“Sanral is an organisation that believes in ensuring motorists are safe on the road, benefit from the world-class infrastructure made possible by us and adhere to the rules we have introduced to Gauteng e–toll road users ,” said Mona.
The requirements for Sanral e–toll motorists are as follows:
- Motorists are prohibited from driving dirty cars and will be fined R500.
- Vehicles with excessive dents and scratches will be fined R100 per dent and scratch.
- In order to reduce litter on Gauteng highways, motorist are prohibited from throwing cigarette butts out of moving vehicles.
- Drivers over 80kg in weight are prohibited from driving, due to the strain caused on the tar road.
- Motorists are prohibited from playing loud music on the road.
- Motorists who are found driving a car that does not belong to them will be fined R1000.
- Vehicles that have been excessively modified and altered will be fined R 1000.
- Motorists are required to wave at the camera when driving under the gantries, in order to be identified.
Mona added that Sanral encourages motorists to take their requirements seriously and adhere to them to avoid being fined or prosecuted.
“Motorists who are found guilty of breaking more than three of the above, will forfeit on the 60 percent e–toll discount and face legal action,” conclude
