Jewellery store robber apprehended in taxi

One suspect got away.

On Tuesday (29 March) at around noon Roodepoort Police members rushed to a jewellery store in Kerk Street after receiving a call informing them that a robbery took place.

According to the store owner one suspect came into the store at around 11.30am pretending to be a customer. A short while later a second suspect entered the store and drew a firearm. He instructed the store owner to open the display cabinet and took a box with 12 rings in it. The second suspect, armed with a large knife, also took a wristwatch before the two fled.

Police patrollers were alerted that one of the suspects was wearing a red T-shirt and they managed to apprehend him in a taxi on Miles Stoker Street.

The 34-year-old suspect was detained at Roodepoort Police Station and will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court soon.
