Zuma must pay back the money

BRAAMFONTEIN – Opposition parties welcome the constitutional court ruling.

The Constitutional Court has ordered that president Jacob Zuma must pay back some of the money used to upgrade his Nkandla homestead.

Delivering the judgement at the Constitutional Court on 31 March, chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng said the Public Protector’s remedial actions were binding.

He explained that the National Treasury should determine how much the president must pay and report back to the Constitutional Court within 60 days of this judgement.

According to Mogoeng, the president has failed to uphold the Constitution of this country.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane applauded the court and indicated that this was a victory for the country’s Constitutional democracy.

“We could never allow south Africa to spend more money on the president,” he said.

He told the large media contingency that it is not just Zuma but the whole ANC that must fall.

He further explained that the president failed to protect the constitution of the country.
