Carjacking and life hacking

The Toastmasters can discuss it all, they've proven.

The Florida Toastmasters discussed everything from car jacking to relationship advice to brewing beer all in one night.

At their recent meeting, Robert de Kramer commenced the speeches by presenting the educational session of the evening on parliamentary procedure.

New member Yousef Tilly delivered his ice breaker speech, entitled ‘My anonymity’, during which he explained the origin of his name, his love for travel and art, particularly oil painting.

Barry Nelson during his speech said, in order to have good friends, you must be one. He gave invaluable relationship and dating advise, telling his gender to “always follow up” with a girl.

Paul Muller explored the relation between knowledge and power in his speech, while Tebogo Legodi addressed carjacking in her turn. Michael Glencross discussed the failures of statistical results in terms of the figures released when matric results are published every year.

Maggie Temana inspired her audience to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, saying that the greatest joy one can have is when one becomes part of something bigger than oneself.

Tim Knight in his speech, ‘The golden brown stuff’, gave his audience an insider-view of beer, particularly how it is brewed and flavoured.

Temana by the end of the night won the trophy for having the best prepared speech, while Robert de Kramer had Lady Luck to thank that he won both the trophy for being the best evaluator and the wine draw.
