Debate: Sylvester the ‘Houdini’ lion on the run again

SANparks says it was a difficult decision.

Sylvester the lion who has gained fame last year for escaping from the Karoo National Park and roaming the countryside for three weeks, is in the news again.

This time though there is sad news for both Sylvester and animal lovers. South Africa National Parks (SANparks) has announced that when Sylvester, who went missing on Monday, is captured they will have to put him down. They said it was a difficult decision that was made after many factors had been considered –.the biggest being the threat the lion poses to human life.

The park is able to track Sylvester because of the tracking collar he is wearing. Attempts to find him were abandoned yesterday but this morning the park announced that the search will continue today.

What do you think? Is it fair to put down a wild animal who escaped from captivity? Please give us your opinion in the comment box below or go to our Facebook page.
