Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital scoops prestigious award

RADIOKOP – Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital recently won an award within the Life Healthcare group in South Africa.

Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital in Radiokop, one of Life Health Group hospitals, recently scooped a prestigious award for being the hospital of the year.

The Life Achiever Awards inaugurated this year and will be held annually within the group throughout the country.

The hospital was nominated based on its financial situation, growth and budget over the last financial year, nursing efficiency, employee perception survey and nurses’ education and training.

The hospital marketing manager Glynis Krebser said the criteria to win the award was robust and challenging.

They competed with Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital from Cape Town. She said they regularly conduct extensive staff training. “Our manager believes in leadership and he ensures that staff members are trained to provide quality health care service. He easily establishes the potential from employees and gives them an opportunity to grow,” she said.

She explained that the award was an incredible achievement. “It will encourage and influence the staff members to keep that standard,” she continued.

The hospital has a training department to train and empower the employees. Some of the employees have been transferred to other hospitals on higher management levels.

“We have porters who are now working reception as admin clerks and cleaners who were deployed to porter positions,” she further explained.

She encouraged patients and residents to always provide feedback with regard to the time they spent in the hospital. “It doesn’t always have to be positive feedback – they need to let us know if they have a negative experience with us, so that we can improve. We take our customers feedback seriously,” she said.

Nursing Standard manager Menick Wessels said the award set the bar for the hospital. “Before this award, we did not know where we stand. Now we will strive to maintain the high-quality standard,” she explained.

Wessels concluded that they would look at what they are doing now and what can be done to improve. “We need to stay the best,” she concluded.
