Motorists to feel the fuel pinch

Raise in fuel levy kicks in.

The Automobile Association (AA) has announced this past Friday a petrol price increase of between 31c and 35c.

This comes on top off the fuel levy hike of 30c a litre as announced by Minister Pravin Gordhan during his budget speech . According to the AA the biggest contributing factor for the increase is the sustained gains in international petroleum prices.

The AA said “The current picture is of a price increase ranging from 31c-35c a litre for petrol‚ 60c for diesel and 52c for illuminating paraffin. Although the average rand-dollar exchange rate has continued to retreat since the beginning of the month, this positive factor has been overcome by the renewed uptick in oil prices”.

“Combined with the fuel levy increase‚ the predicted increase of 60c a litre for diesel‚ could mean a price increase of nearly R1 a litre for diesel users‚” the AA concluded.
