There’s hope for Aaron

There is light at the end of the tunnel for Aaron

It’s been a hard few months for the Halters family who have been tirelessly working to make their dream come true.

That dream is for two-year-old Aaron Halters to hear their voices.

However the family is now one step closer to realizing their dream after the two-year-old underwent surgery recently.

Aaron was born with bilateral severe-profound Sensori-Neural loss, a type of hearing loss, or deafness.

Aaron’s deafening plea

However this is not the only ailment Aaron has, he was also born with Branchio-Oto-Renal syndrome, a condition that disrupts the development of tissues in the neck and causes malformations of the ears and kidneys.

However, the Halters family has not given up hope despite the cochlea implant and kidney surgery costing more than half a million.

They have been raising funds through fun days, a soccer tournament and a high tea. They also have an upcoming concert by Dr Victor and a dance showcase.

High tea in aid of Aaron

Last week Wednesday (16 March), Aaron underwent the first phase of surgical operations for his cochlea implant in his right ear.

The operation was a success according to his grandfather Trevor Halters.

“This week he took his bandages off and he’s doing very well. We will now monitor him and hope for the best,” he said.

Although the first operation has been concluded, the cochlea implant will only be switched on later next month.

This will then allow Aaron enough time to recover from the surgery. Doctors will also be able to ascertain if the implant is helping Aaron.

The two-year-old wont be done with surgical operations just yet.

He is scheduled for another cochlea implant operation in his left ear in six months time.
