Caleb says goodbye to CPF, hello to candidacy

Big changes await both the Florida CPF and Ward 70.

His recent letter to the greater Florida community, published on the Florida CPF Facebook page, sums up Caleb Finn’s passion for the community.

It is not, however, a final goodbye from the now-former Florida CPF chairman. He will pursue a political career, having confirmed an offer from the Democratic Alliance (DA) to stand as candidate councillor in the upcoming local elections. He has been confirmed as the DA’s candidate for Ward 70, which will until the outcome of the elections be represented by councillor Dave Dewes.

“Up until Thursday 10 March I was the chairperson of this wonderful community organisation,” Caleb wrote in his letter.

“It is both with great joy and a sense of sadness that I must share that, due to an exciting change in career for me, I have had to resign as your chairperson.”

He cites as reason for resigning from the CPF its nature as an apolitical organisation, having said, “it should most certainly remain this way”.

For Finn, residents of Florida have the common qualities of not being scared of a challenge and standing together. He said he has been blessed with the Florida community as other communities and CPFs often battle with politics and in-fighting.

“I can honestly say it was a privilege to work with each and every one of the approximately 200 volunteers who make up the Florida CPF network, alongside the sector and sub-sector crime forums and thousands of Floridians,” he said.

“We have achieved many breakthroughs in the fight against crime and I have absolute and total confidence that this will continue to be the case.”

Finn also thanked the Florida Police for their cooperation and the brotherhood he feels he formed with them, as well as his fellow members of the Florida CPF executive committee.

“I am confident that the team will soar to even greater heights and I look forward to interacting with them in my new capacity. Thank you to the community, it was a privilege to serve you,” he concluded.

Finn has already started working towards filling a councillor position. In January and February he worked to help landlady Maria Botha have barriers in front of her property extended for community safety.
