Dr Saskia will be sorely missed

She has left a big hole in our hearts and lives

“Dr Saskia Karius’ death has left a whole in our lives and hearts,” says Cora Bailey from Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) last week.

Saskia suddenly died last week Tuesday after spending about six weeks in hospital to recuperate from an accident she had. “She was on her way to recovery and would have been discharged from hospital in a few days’ time,” said Cora.

Cora said it is suspected that she died as a result of an embolism. “It is apparently common after someone had a big operation.”

The 41-year-old was a vet for Claw for about 10 years and according to Cora, she has touched the hearts of so many people. “She wasn’t just an excellent vet and colleague; she also assisted with fundraising for Claw,” Cora said. She added that Saskia worked tirelessly to help animals in poorer communities who had no access to a vet.

“We will miss hear dearly. She has left a big hole in our hearts and lives.

Adrienne Boscombe Olivier, on Facebook, said she met Saskia in a Dischem many years ago. “She was this young, vibrant woman who was so clued up on what medicine to use of Glucosamine in animals. I was a Pharmaceutical Representative and I had really not considered animal health back in those days. She inspired me so much and left me with a business card and her contact number. That chance meeting and long chat led me to become involved in animal adoptions and meet so many awesome people. Saskia will never ever be replaced, but hopefully her memory will result in many doctors wanting to give back to animal welfare. That chance meeting has resulted in me having the two most awesome lifesavers in our home.”
