Although the rioters at Zandspruit informal settlement have calmed down, the situation remains tense, according to Honeydew Cluster spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs.
Currently the community is meeting with the area’s councillors.
Beyers Naudé Road is closed between Peter and Johan Roads. Marina Drive is also closed. Jacobs said the roads will remain closed indefinitely.
Earlier one rioter was arrested and two officers of the Public Order Policing (Pop) unit were injured after their Nyala had a flat tyre.
Motorists are advised to use Hendrik Potgieter Road.
