Horsing around with Tasmin

ROODEPOORT – With reins that steer straight to success, Tasmin Maher gallops to victory.

Tasmin Maher (20) is young, talented and heavily invested in everything equine. The youthful equestrian has devoted the greater part of her life to these gentle giants.

The equine connoisseur shows her love for horses through her work at Glover Paddocks where she gets to interact with horses to her hearts content.

Maher said that she was first introduced to horses when she was still a toddler and would watch her mother and sister ride horses. “I wanted to ride a horse ever since I was little but could only start riding at seven years as that was the prescribed age to start riding at the paddocks,” said Maher.

The equine science student divulged that she spends at least six days a week riding. “I start my riding early in the morning so that I manage at least two hours before I head off to school,” said Maher. She explained that at Glover Paddocks, where she works and rides horses, she gets to work with different breeds from thoroughbreds to warmbloods and everything in between.

“I competed in the Presidents Cup held at the Maple Ridge Equestrian Farm recently, and all of my horses got placed,” said Maher. To prepare for events, Maher said that she gets to know each horse to find out what their strengths are and in doing so makes sure not to limit their abilities. She went on to further divulge that she every time she gets onto a horse, she learns something new. “You can never learn enough when it comes to horses, each has their own temperament and something unique to them,” said Maher.

Maher concluded that the challenge of figuring the temperament of each horse, is what makes riding them exciting.
