Robbers nailed for a lot more than chainsaw theft

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Local security nab three robbers.

Three suspects were caught after a car chase by Community Support Services (CSS) in Weltevreden Park.

A local tree feller on Randpark and Essenhout drives was confronted by three males at 3.30pm on 11 March. The suspects stole the man’s chainsaw and fled from the scene. Fortunately, a CSS patrol vehicle drove by and was stopped by the victim.

According to CSS owner Greg Pierce, “The CSS member gave chase to the vehicle (a charcoal Kia) and luckily another patrol car was close-by and stopped the suspect’s vehicle.” The team then gave chase from Beyers Naudé Drive onto the N1 highway.

“The suspects then turned left onto President Fouché Drive where we (CSS) had vehicles stationed to corner the car,” added Pierce. The chase ultimately ended on Malibongwe Drive.

Upon inspection it was discovered that the suspect’s vehicle was reported stolen by Sophiatown SAPS in July 2015.

After a lengthy car chase, the suspects were caught.

Honeydew SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs stated, “Three suspects between 33 and 36 have been arrested on charges of robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle.”

Jacobs added that the suspects will appear at Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 14 March.
