Pupils take 25 winks

STRUBENS VALLEY - 25 pupils squeeze onto a queen size bed in an effort to win 10 mattresses for a pre-school.

World Sleep Day falls on 11 March, but at Hirsch’s Bedroom Boutique in Strubens Valley there was no time for sleeping when they celebrated this day on 10 March at the store.

Raquel Holdsworth, Public Relations Officer of the store said that this branch along with the ten other branches host a fun, community driven project to celebrate this day. Sleep is such an important part of people’s lives especially for young children and Hirsch’s has recognized that many underprivileged pre-schools do not have any beds or mattresses to sleep on.

Cloud 9 and Rest Assured promised all ten Hirsch’s branches ten sponge mattresses for a pre-school of their choice if they win a special competition. Maragon Private School in Ruimsig visited the store in Strubensvalley to help them win these ten mattresses. The challenge was to see how many pupils could squeeze onto a Cloud 9 Queen size bed.

The 25 Maragon pupils came with a bus and were very excited about the prospect to win the competition. Some pupils stood up in the middle of the bed, while some sat on their friends laps. They had to stay on the bed for 30 seconds. The Hirsch’s branch that clocks the most bodies on a bed will be the winner of the ten mattresses.
