Police visit Welties for crime awareness

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Police visit the little ones from Welties.

The young minds of Weltevreden Park Primary School were educated on crime awareness by Honeydew SAPS.

In conjunction with the Honeydew CPF, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, spokesperson for Honeydew Police, spoke to the junior grades. This was the second tour of local schools. The first was held at Panorama Primary School. WO Jacobs highlighted the fact that stealing, no matter how small, is a crime. Even stealing your friend’s sandwich, a tracksuit top or even a pencil is a crime.

WO Jacobs explained to the pupils that criminals can be any colour, ethnicity, shape, gender or age. There has been a lot of concern over children’s safety over the past few months and the partnership with Honeydew SAPS, the CPF and local schools, could help prevent children being exposed to dangerous situations.

“This is a continuation of the proactive approach that the Honeydew SAPS and CPF have adopted for this year. We will continue to give talks and hand out pamphlets at various venues that will include schools, shopping centres, and more.”

Parents are yet again reminded of their children’s safety when waiting for transport after school. Many children are found outside of the school boundary in the afternoons and this could put the children’s safety at risk.
