#Piknothingup trends during latest Pikitup strike

Third illegal Pikitup strike since November 2015 commenced yesterday.

Yesterday morning (Wednesday 9 March) an illegal work stoppage by some Pikitup employees marked the third strike they’ve embarked on since November 2015.

In a press release, the entity acknowledged the issue.

“[We] would like to inform residents and business owners that we have an illegal work stoppage by our workers associated to the [South African Municipal Workers Union],” it read.

Samwu had not yet clarified why the strike commenced. It is believed around 1 000 Pikitup employees have trashed the city during the strike on Wednesday.

The entity said the strike will affect refuse collection in all the regions of the city. It committed to communicating details of the impact and any contingency plans at a later stage.

Residents are urged to keep a close eye on its website, www.pikitup.co.za and its social media pages for updates.
