Man points gun at school children

Children managed to take down registration number.

The mother of a Grade 8 West Ridge High School pupil is gravely concerned after an elderly man allegedly not only nearly ran over her daughter and a friend, but also pointed a firearm at them.

The girl, who can not be identified due to her being a minor, and her friend were walking to catch a taxi yesterday after school when the incident took place. She alleged that an “elderly white man” in a white VW nearly knocked them over on Betty Street. He then reversed his vehicle and pointed a firearm at them. He did the same to other pupils, including a prefect. He allegedly also pointed his firearm at waiting taxi drivers. The girl said there were at least six or seven witnesses and that children managed to take down the vehicle’s registration number.

Roodepoort Police has urged those involved and their parents to open cases so the vehicle’s registration number could be traced.

West Ridge High School declined to comment, saying they were unaware of the incident.
