BREAKING NEWS: School taxi in flames

HONEYDEW RIDGE - No children were inside the vehicle at the time.

A white taxi caught on fire at about 6am on 9 March on Nic Diederichs Boulevard near Emily Hobhouse road.

Fire Fighters douse the flames.

The taxi driver (who did not want to be named) said, “The flames started off small, I can’t imagine what started the fire.”
Three fire engines, the first from Hunter Hill Fire Station, arrived on the scene and began dousing the large flames.
The taxi owner Thuso Ndaba commented, “He (the driver) was on the way to fetch the children. He is my brother and was the only person in the taxi at the time.”
Ndaba explained how motorists stopped to help douse the flames with their own fire extinguishers but to no avail, as the flames continued to get worse.

Fire fighters managed to control the flames.

The burnt out taxi.

Traffic along Nic Diederichs  from both sides has been diverted, please avoid the area.
