‘He was taken from me twice’

Widow desperately wants husband's ashes back.

Allison Nugent, 50, not only mourns the death of her beloved husband, but a second tragedy has befallen her last week.

Allison was at work and her niece, who lives with her, was at school last Wednesday (2 March) when around 3pm three burglars entered her home by breaking a window in the living room. Her pit bull terrier was locked up in the back yard and the burglars committed their crime undisturbed. They made off in a green vehicle with her big-screen TV, two cellphones, binoculars and alcohol. But worst of all – her husband’s ashes.

When Allison arrived at her house, she told her niece not to go inside and phoned the police. They had to enter the house eventually because police only came the next day.

“In the 10 years of living here we never have fallen prey to criminals but the one time we did, it is in the worst way,” said Allison. “The sad thing is they most likely just discarded it in a veld or something,” she said.

Her husband, 55, who she does not want to name out of respect, was an avid motorcyclist who sadly passed away three months ago. His ashes were all she had left of him. Her intention was to have it mixed with ink by a special process and be tattooed with it.

“It hurt so much losing my husband and now it feels they have taken him away from me for a second time,” said Allison.

Allison hopes someone has picked up the container or that a pawn shop owner have found it.
