20 candles on 320 cupcakes

WELTEVREDEN PARK –- Agape Christian School celebrates 20 years of excellence with a big birthday party.

Agape Christian School in Weltevrenden Park celebrated their 20th birthday with a bang on 29 February. Grade 1 to 7 pupils ran around in specially made T-shirts highlighting the special birthday.

Principal Clarence Jennings and his wife Theresa said that they saw the school grow from one Grade 1 class of 15 pupils to two classes of each grade totaling 320 pupils at the school. Theresa explained that her husband built the school 20 years ago with his own hands. The original farmhouse can still be seen as one of the buildings at the school.

“We believe that our children are being nurtured to be leaders in their community and future leaders in our country. We thank God for the 20 years of His grace and protection,” said Theresa.

The children were treated to a feast of cold drinks, sweets, chips and cupcakes arranged in the number 20. The two teachers of each grade had to host a game for the pupils to participate in. The pupils showed their hula-hooping skills, picked up Smarties with straws, played ping-pong and more.

According to Theresa, the highlight of the day was the Fear Factor game where the pupils had to eat funny foods and combinations for a chance to win a prize. Pupils let go of yellow and blue balloons at the end of the day with scriptures inside them.
