RRA army cleans up Radiokop

RADIOKOP – Residents clean-up their community in Radiokop.

Community and committee members of Radiokop gathered on 28 February to initiate a clean-up of their streets in Radiokop.

Radiokop Resident’s Association (RRA) chairperson Greg Olsen said, “We as a committee and residents want to raise awareness of the area as many residents don’t even know what actually goes on in their area.”

Oslen explained how the RA has a good working relationship with bylaw enforcement, Johannesburg Roads Agency and JMPD. “Together we work as a unit to keep our area safe and clean, working especially hard on problem properties we have in Radiokop,” added Olsen.

Together with the RA and various entities, the community works with Patrol Initiative (PI) to keep the area safe. Olsen explained, “Many residents rely solely on PI which operates on a volunteer basis, so as much as they help us they need support as they volunteer their time and petrol.”

The clean-up started at the BP garage on John Vorster Road and worked around removing illegal advertising such as posters for tree-fellers and painters. Together the small group cleaned up numerous streets in their area such as the major John Vorster Road as well as Octave and Oprah roads.
