STRUBEN'S VALLEY – City power technicians scramble to restore power to several neighborhoods after a cable was stolen.

Residents from Struben’s Valley, Honeydew, Wilgeheuwel, Allen’s Nek, Radiokop, Honeydew and Laser Park have had their power supply disrupted for lengthy periods since 20 February.

Ward 97 Councilor Jaco Engelbrecht said that the last information he received from the City Power depot manager was that the Wilgeheuwel power station was down due to cable theft.

“It was indicated that the power should be restored by 9pm on 22 February,”he said.

“I have had residents calling and sending text messages to complain about the power cuts. The most affected people are the agricultural farmers who need power in order to pump water.

City Power has been communicating with residents via Twitter.

Through the tweets, City Power confirmed that they had restored 80 per cent of the power and asked residents to be patient during this time.

Questions were sent to City Power spokesperson Yumna Sheik
