Happy Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day!

All dogs love dog biscuits.

Every dog has it’s day – and this is it. Help your pooch celebrate International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day on 23 February.

All dogs love dog biscuits. Modern day dog biscuits were fist developed by the manufacturer, James Spratt in the mid 19th century. He came up with the idea after visiting Liverpool in England where he saw some stray dogs hungrily devouring some ship’s biscuits.

The dog biscuits were first produced in London with a secret recipe that included meat and vegetables.

Today, dog biscuits are usually used in training and as rewards. They even come in many varieties and flavours including ones which clean dogs’ teeth.

Make your dog wag his tail in glee by treating him to his favourite dog biscuits. You can even try making some of your own:

Here are some tips for choosing a healthy dog treat:

1. Look at the ingredients. Aim for natural or organic ingredients and stay away from refined sugar and too much fat as well as preservatives and animal by-products.

2. Look at the calories in the treat. Indulging your dog too often with fatty treats can lead to your dog becoming overweight and unhealthy.

3. Texture. Firmer treats are better for your dog’s dental health than softer treats, however older dogs may not be able to chew on hard treats and so softer treats are favourable.

Whatever the treat, make sure your dog is healthy and well looked after with a yummy snack it will always enjoy.

Have you ever tasted a dog treat?
