Dog poisoning on the increase: What measures to take

Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch (RNW) has issued an alert to residents.

According to RNW, dog poisonings in Roodekrans and Wilro Park are on the increase. Criminals favourite poison to use it Temik, better known as Two-step, which contains Albicarb. Albicarb paralyses all the muscles and leads to a traumatic death. Two-step is black/grey granular substance and is usually put in meat or bread and thrown over the perimeter wall.

Personal Safety:

• Avoid contact with saliva, bodily fluids or other excrements.

• Wear gloves.

• Your dog is in distress and might show signs of aggression, thus be careful.

• Do not put your finger inside its mouth for it might bite.

Immediate Treatment:

• Keep the dog warm with a blanket.

• Check the yard thoroughly for more poisoned bait.

• Get your dog to the vet immediately – many dogs die within 20 minutes.
