Dios Los Ninos at work

WILGEHEUWEL – Dios Los Ninos pupils built a shaduf used in ancient times by Egyptians.

Grade 6, 7 and 9 pupils at Dios Los Ninos School in Wilgeheuwel had a busy day on 12 February.

So many practical learning activities took place at the school:

Grade 7 pupils built a shaduf – Egyptians used this in ancient times to get water to their crops.

Grade 9 and international general certificate of secondary education (IGCSE) pupils painted plant cells as part of their science studies.

Science pupils from Grade 7 also painted stomata and palisade cells while Grade 6 pupils painted flowering plants.

Other pupils from lower grades learned the letter C by making use of natural materials.

School principal Leonie de Kock said this ensures the 3D component of pupils’ letter formation and reading.

“We believe in education to the core, we think out of the box, we focus on making sure that all our lessons are visual, auditory and kinesthetic (VAK),” she added.
