Trial to be set for alleged juvenile assailants

West Ridge High School assault case finally to be heard in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court.

When three juvenile suspects arrested in connection with an assault at West Ridge High School appear in court again, it will be to set a trial date.

The three underaged boys appeared briefly in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday 10 February) on charges of assault. They stand accused of severely assaulting a 17-year-old fellow pupil on the school grounds on 10 November, to the point where he was admitted to the ICU at Life Flora Clinic.

A case of attempted murder was opened with the Roodepoort Police, but the investigating officer, Sergeant Sibeko, hails from the Honeydew Police and works for the child care unit.

DoE slow in punishing West Ridge assailants

According to regional prosecutor Ronald Sithada, the case was postponed from December to today to allow for investigations to conclude.

“We are now satisfied that the investigation has been completed and will be setting out a trial date at their next court appearance,” he told the Record.

They’re set to next appear in front of Magistrate Ruby Matthys on Wednesday 2 March.
