Young man stabbed in heart

Only victim's cell phone stolen.

At around 8.30pm last night (10 February) a young man died after being mugged.

Sources told the Record on the scene two young men, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, were walking towards Princess informal settlement when they were mugged at the corner of Corlett Avenue and Albertina Sisulu Road.

Minutes after the incident took place an off-duty Metro Police officer and a Dowry security officer came across the scene.

According to the victim’s friend, two suspects approached them, demanding their valuables. He pretended to have nothing on him after which a scuffle ensued and his friend was stabbed in the heart. The suspects fled with the victim’s cellphone.

Several emergency services fought tirelessly for more than an hour to save the young man’s life but their efforts were unsuccessful. He was declared dead just after 10pm.

West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) played a pivotal role on the scene, directing traffic and keeping curious bystanders at bay.

No official statement could be given to the Record on the scene.
