71-year-old woman brutally assaulted during hijacking

Strangled and kicked.

A highly traumatised 71-year-old woman, who asked to stay anonymous, was assaulted brutally during a hijacking on 2 February.

The victim, who uses a walker, was pulling her Toyota Corolla out of the driveway at her house in 7th Avenue at around 9am. As she was about to get back into her vehicle to go and visit a friend, two men suddenly appeared at her door and after saying “hi granny” jerked her from the vehicle. They then kicked, beat and tried to strangle her to such an extend that she had to remain in hospital for three days. They fled in her vehicle.

According to the victim the taller of the two men (see photo) was the most brutal and the other one was dressed like a woman.

Although there is CCTV footage of the incident, police asked the Record not to publish it because it might jeopardise their investigation.

A case had been opened at Roodepoort Police Station.
