Pik(ing)itup once more

Operations resume as Pikitup workers return from illegal strike.

Pikitup workers are back at work following a mere four days of illegal strike action, led by the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu).

“Pikitup has commenced the collection of refuse as per the normal refuse collection schedules,” the entity in a press statement yesterday (Monday 8 February) said.

Another Pikitup strike commences

They urge business owners and residents to resume taking out their bins with immediate effect.

“Pikitup management once more apologises to all affected residents and business owners of Joubrg, for the inconvenience caused by the illegal work stoppage.”

Areas were affected on Thursday and Friday as a result of the illegal work stoppage and Pikitup said those areas were also not prioritised during the weekend.

According to the regional manager at the Roodepoort depot, Stella Wilson, all this means in effect is those areas will only again be serviced as per the areas’ normal refuse collection scheduled days, which means this Thursday and Friday.

She further stated the Roodepoort depot will simply follow the normal collection schedules to catch up on uncollected refuse.
