Armed robbers arrested in Struben’s Valley

STRUBEN’S VALLEY – Two arrested armed suspects will appear at the Roodepoort Magistrates' Court on 9 February.

Two suspects who were arrested on 7 February after two separate incidents of armed robbery on Dragme Avenue in Struben’s Valley, are expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on 9 February.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs explained that in the first incident three armed suspects confronted their victim who was reversing out of a driveway.

“He (victim) was instructed to get out of his vehicle and taken back to his house. The suspects managed to take cash and a cell phone and then jumped into the neighbour’s property,” she explained.

The police indicated that suspects threatened their victims at gunpoint in the second incident and instructed them to lie down and took various items from the house before they fled the scene.

“Trauma counselling was arranged through the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) trauma unit for the victims involved,” said WO Jacobs.

The suspects were arrested by the private security company and the police. The suspects’ getaway vehicle, a black Ford Fiesta, was recovered at Oulap Street in Wilgeheuwel.

It was established that four armed robbers were involved in the two separate incidents. The stolen items were recovered.
