Scouting is a movement aimed at supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development focusing on outdoor and survival skills
Boy Scouts was founded in the USA on this day in 1910 by William Dickson Boyce. Here are some other interesting facts about Boy Scouts:
1. The late David Bowie first performed in front of a Scout Camp on the Isle of Wight in 1958.
2. 31 million people are active in scouting around the world. That’s the population of Peru.
3. Baden Powell’s Scouting for Boys has sold 150 million copies since 1908, making it the 4th most sold book of all time.
4. There are only five countries that don’t practice scouting, namely China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea and Andorra.
5. Scouts can be considered as the original Olympic game makers, performing important tasks like serving tea, running messengers and carrying placards in the early games.
6. Georges Remi, also known as Herge was inspired by a scout when he created the famous character Tin-Tin.
