Man electrocuted in Zandspruit

ZANDSPRUIT – Honeydew Police together with City Power are planning another operation to warn residents against illegal connections.

Honeydew SAPS confirmed that a 30-year-old man died instantly in Zandspruit Informal Settlement after he was electrocuted on 6 February.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs explained that police found the man’s body on the scene.

“We opened an inquest that will be investigated by the Honeydew Detective Services,” she explained.

She further indicated that the police had teamed up with City Power on numerous occasions and warned residents about the dangers of illegal connections. The police were also planning a follow-up operation in the battle against this persistent scourge.

City Power spokesperson Yumna Sheik said Eskom supplied the area with electricity.

“We ask residents to report all suspicious activities to their local police office or on our toll free number, 0800 00 251 or our 24-hour hotline, 011 490 7553,” she concluded.
