Two March dates set aside for voter registration

Not registered or not sure that you're registered right? Sort it out on these days.

Two dates in March have been set aside by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for voter registration.

This forms part of their preparations for the upcoming local government elections. The commission is encouraging residents who have turned 18 since the last elections in 2014 to register to vote, despite a poll date not having been set yet.

The dates for registration set aside are Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March, and on both days registration will take place between 8am and 5pm. People who have moved between residences since the last election also need to update their registration details at these stations.

Anyone who is a South African citizen, older than 18 and possess a green, bar-coded ID book or smart ID card or valid temporary ID certificate can register to vote.

Residents can only vote in the voting district in which they live and the voting station at which they’re registered.

Residents of Roodepoort can find the relevant voting station information here.
