Thank a mailman today!

Mailmen should be thanked for their hard work much more frequently than they are.

Many of us get home in the afternoon, haul some papers out of our mailboxes and dump it in a pile on the kitchen table without a second though as to how they got there.

Mailmen, or mail carriers if you prefer to be more politically correct, are some of the most under appreciated members of our society. Even in the age where one can do almost everything online, many people still depend on mail carriers to faithfully deliver bills, accounts and other mail from house to house come rain or sunshine. Today we finally notice them on National Thank a Mailman Day.

Mailmen can be traced to early times where messengers were used to delivers verbal or written messages, often on foot. The next image that comes to mind are the mailmen who ride bikes equipped with giant baskets or over-sized and weighty satchels. Some mailmen even use small trucks to get from one place to another.

Mailmen should be thanked for their hard work much more frequently than they are. Consider how difficult it would be to travel to the right places to give out the right mail to the right people day after day with bundles of mail that never cease to arrive at the post office. Think about how strenuous it is to carry so much mail. Consider what it feels like to end your day knowing that your hard work is probably in a disorganized pile, that’s if it was even collected from the mailbox at all.

You can thank your mailman in many ways. A verbal thank you or even a token of appreciation given to a mailman or maybe left in a mailbox will go a long way to make someone’s day and feel appreciated. And everyone deserves to feel appreciated.
