eTolls: You still have a chance to speak up

Four days left to say your say about eTolls. Found out how.

Despite the early January deadline, residents can still speak out against proposed Aarto regulations amendments, as the deadline had allegedly been extended.

In summary, the bulk of the proposed amendments deal with provisions relating to e-tolls and non-payment thereof. This has been a controversial topic since both Sanral and the Department of Transport reportedly threatened motorists with criminal record for non-payment of e-tolls in the two years preceding the gazette in which these proposed amendments were published in December.

Although the known deadline for comment submissions was 7 January, residents now have until Tuesday 2 February to raise their voices against it.

Taxpayers cough up millions to defend e-toll

Justice Project South Africa chairman Howard Dembovsky is disgusted in the Department and Minister of Transport who failed to inform the public of the extension.

“We have to ask why it has apparently been deemed appropriate to fail to inform the public of the extension?” he asked.

“Surely, if the department and minister were genuine in seeking inputs from the public, it would not have apparently hidden its intention to extend the deadline?

3 December D0day for e-tolls

“We have grown tired of the ambush tactics which have been adopted around the entire e-tolling issue and find it contemptuous of all concerned to continue to employ such tactics.”

JPSA submitted its comments on 29 December in which it raised issues which contravene other provisions in the Aarto Act.

Interested persons are urged to submit written comments on the proposed amendments, addressing it to;
