Honeydew Cluster celebrate National Police Day

COSMO CITY – Police from the Honeydew Cluster celebrate National Police Day.

Honeydew Cluster Commander, Major General Girly Mbele challenged police within the cluster to celebrate achievements when celebrating the National Police Day next year.

Maj Gen Mbele urged police to go back to the fundamental principles of the profession. “Today we are celebrating ourselves. To recognise our sacrifices on a daily basis and commemorate our members who had fallen in the line of duty,” she explained.

She was talking during the National Police Day celebration at Cosmo Multipurpose Hall in Cosmo City on 28 January.

Maj Gen Mbele said it was clear that the police profession was a thankless job. “There is no organisation which is not appreciated like our own but it is our constitutional mandate to go out there and serve the community,” she continued.

She further asked the police to develop a passion to serve not for money. “Let’s turn our own scars into stars, it is better to be celebrated than to be tolerated,” Maj Gen Mbele said.

Police officials and commanders from all stations in the cluster attended the ceremony including Florida, Diepsloot, Honeydew, Randburg, Roodepoort and Douglasdale police stations.

Among other topics that were discussed at the celebration were employee health and wellness, career development and financial management.

The Honeydew Cluster and Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Jean Berdou urged police to continue to build and maintain relationship with the communities.

“We want to congratulate the South African Police Service (SAPS) on the services they are providing to our communities,” he said.

He continued that CPF know that it was a difficult fight against crime but the police were doing their job with dedication and sacrifices.

Berdou further explained that the CPF believed that when police are working with community, crime can be defeated. “We want to encourage all our communities to work together with the SAPS to make sure that criminals are bought to book,” concluded Berdou.
