Chicken Runners going ‘wild’

Nature conservation to benefit.

The local Vespa club, Chicken Runners are going on their annual tour and this year their cause is nature conservation.

The tour of 2 000km will kick off on 22 April in Roodepoort and end in Alexander Bay from where the Chicken Runners will return to Roodepoort. The riders will stop over at Barberspan, Kuruman, Upington, Springbok, Alexander Bay and back through Pofadder, Upington, Delportshoop, Wolmeransstad and then home on 2 May.

All the money raised will go towards the South African National Parks’ (SANParks) Honorary Rangers (HR). The HRs are involved in raising essential funds, creating vital public awareness and supplying much-needed manpower and equipment to meet various conservation, tourism and environmental education needs within SANParks.

They also are involved in activities such as bush camps, removing alien invasive plants, counter-poaching displays in shopping centres, talks at schools and clean-up campaigns.

Anyone needing more information or who wants to donate to the cause (their NPO number is in place) can contact Jannie Alberts on 072 311 0373 or pop in at Vespa Classic in Heron Street.
