The athletics season kicks off at Florries

Records tumbled as Hoërskool Florida hosted Hoërskole Klerksdorp and Transvalia in a friendly athletics meet at their sports ground last week Friday (22 January).

Tino Swanepoel was once again the star of the show as he set a school record of 10:80 in the boys U/16 100-metre race.

The home supporters cheered his name at every course and the young man did not disappoint as he went on to claim first place in the boys U/16 110-metre hurdles in 15:00 and claimed another first podium finish in the boys U/16 high jump with 6,26-metres.

He completed his day with a second position in boys U/16 high jump at 1,60-metres and a third-place finish in the boys U/17 triple jump with a 11,47 metres.

More records followed as Jerrid Keir set a 1,85-metre record in the boys U/17 high jump.

This was followed by DP van den Berg set a 1,98 record in the boys U/19 high jump.

Jessica also broke a record in the girls U/19 shotput in 10,91-metres.

She followed this up first place finish in the girls U/19 discus with a throw of 32,12-metres.

Other first place finishes include Marco Mynhardt in the boys U/16 800-metre race in a time of 2:11:50. In the U/17 800-metre race Dewald van Niekerk came in first position.

Levandrè Horne finished first in the boys U/14 long jump with a distance of 5,53-metres.

Donovan Fourie finished first in the boys U/17 discus with a distance of 43,52-metres and he followed this up with second place finish in the boys U/17 shot put with a distance of 12,95-metres.

Monique Morton finished first in the girls U/17 discus with a distance of 32,45-metres.
