Scores arrested for drugs and guns

All firearms were pistols.

Police arrested scores of suspects for possession of drugs and recovered six firearms this past Friday.

Police in Gauteng arrested the suspects for being in possession of drugs worth thousands of rands and seized six unlicensed firearms in the Pretoria and Witwatersrand areas. The suspects were arrested during routine crime-prevention operations and they are due to appear in various magistrates’ courts today and tomorrow.

Drugs that were recovered included nyaope, dagga, mandrax and crystal meth. The suspects were arrested in areas that included

•15 in Vosloorus

•13 in Evaton

• 9 in Florida

•16 in Sebokeng, Garsfontein, Honeydew and Mamelodi

Others were arrested in Moffatview, Sandton, Cullinan, Alexandra, Ennerdale, Johannesburg Central and Pretoria North.

The suspects who were arrested for being in possession of the unlicensed firearms are being profiled to determine whether the firearms could be linked to other serious and violent crimes.

Police are appealing to members of the public to report any suspicious people and vehicles to their nearest police station or to Crime Stop at 08600 10111 at all hours.
