Farewell to the old garde

New breed of chess players to be developed at the school.

Constantia Kloof Primary School’s chess team went all the way to Pretoria to participate in the Gauteng Schools Games.

With top school teams from around the province participating, Constantia Kloof managed to finish in the top 20.

Coach Mona Coombs said she was proud of how her team handled the tough competition and never gave up despite the challenges.

“The team had to face some of the country’s top chess players so they gained some valuable experience. But despite the difficulty they faced, they did extremely well and I am proud of them. Now it is time to welcome a new group of players with just two remaining from this year’s team,” she said.

With the majority of the team’s players now in Grade 7, new players will be integrated into the senior team to take up the mantle from their predecessors, aiming to improve on this years result.
