Apcan Security has is issued a warning to residents of Florida and the surrounding areas saying gate motor theft has notably increased.
Over and above the theft of the motors, criminals also gain access to properties by derailing gates and tampering with the motors.
Although there is no 100 per cent fool prove way to secure your gate motor there are steps you can take to make it difficult for the criminals:
• Fitting a theft-resistant cage
• Purchasing your theft-resistant cage from a reputable manufacturer
• Fitting the bracket with an insurance-rated padlock
• Linking your gate motor to your home alarm system
• Making sure your driveway and the area by your gate is well lit
• Locking your gate with a proper pad lock
It is advised to report stolen or damaged gate motors to the police for them to identify trends in your area.
