After many of the parents had left on 13 January, Grade 1s were welcomed into their classrooms at Weltevreden Park Primary School.
The tearful and proud parents bid farewell to their children as each teacher began class on the first day of school. Deputy Principal Karen Bergsma said, “We had a small welcome ceremony session yesterday to make the process smoother for both the Grade 1s and their families.”
The smiling faces greeted each visitor who walked in and quickly went back to fierce, but excited, concentration. “I always say to them that this is their job now, they are newly employed at Welties,” said Bergsma. She added that the school is extremely happy to have them and that they are all lovely children.
