ALLEN'S NEK – Allen Glen High School gets sporty with their new Grade 8s.

The Grade 8s of Allen Glen High School (AGHS) enjoyed a taste of the sports that their new school has to offer on 12 January.

Grade 8 form supervisor and teacher Julia Schoombee said, “It is a chance for pupils to showcase their skills as well as learn new sporting skills.” The sporting day focused on the many sports that AGHS has to offer, such as soccer, cricket, rugby, hockey, netball, swimming and tennis.

Pupils participated in each sport for half an hour. The external coaches and teachers as well as the Grade 12s involved in each sport, helped the pupils. They also looked for particular pupils who showed an interest and skill in sports.

Some Grade 8 pupils said that they were nervous to be at a new school but were happy to get a chance to experience a new sport. “AGHS has tons of sport on offer to the pupils and we encourage participation and interest in all the sports we have. [This event] also allows the pupils to get to know one another in a relaxed and fun environment.” said Schoombee.
