1+1= Two new teachers

Laerskool Gustav Preller Primary boasts two new mathematics teachers.

They’ll be the ones to prepare many young pupils for life in high school in the year to come.

Trischa Pretorius and Lindsay Steenkamp started their first day as teachers at Laerskool Gustav Preller Primary today (Wednesday 13 January) alongside the Grade 1s. They will both be teaching children in the senior phase (Grade 4 to 7). The Record had a quick chat with each.

Trischa, 22, had recently finished her studies in education at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and will be teaching mathematics and social sciences to children in grades 5 to 7 this year. It is her first job after university and she hopes to make a lasting impression on pupils. Her personal favourite subjects are biology and science.

Lindsay is helping out as a part-time teacher while completing her postgraduate qualification in inclusive education and remedial therapy at UJ. She is relieving Mrs Paul, working in the media centre until she returns in the second term. She will be teaching mathematics to Grade 6 and 7.
