GALLERY: Maragon welcomes 150 pupils to Grade 1

RUIMSIG – No tears for Maragon Private Schools Grade 1 pupils.

Maragon Private Schools Ruimsig welcomed 150 anxious Grade 1 pupils on 12 January. Many of the pupils from pre-school know primary school as “big school” and they looked very excited to be there. Surprisingly, there were no tears at all from the parents or the pupils.

Parents, siblings, aunts and grandparents gathered at the school, taking photos and saying goodbye and good luck to their little ones. The pupils looked more than happy to say goodbye and mingle among themselves. Vice principal Ashleigh Bateman said that most of the children know each other as they come from Maragon Pre-School and that out of the 150 new Grade 1s, only 15 came from other schools.

“This year we are planning on making learning fun for the children and not stress them out so much with homework,” said Bateman. She explained that the more children have fun while learning, the better they understand their work. “We want the parents to trust us as we will be more hands-on with the pupils,” said Bateman.

The transition from pre-school was easy for most of the pupils as they had a chance to visit their primary school and spend a day with their new teacher beforehand.
