Wits to admit about 6 200 new students

BRAAMFONTEIN – Wits provides all the information on their website to assist students with the admission and enrolment process.

University of the Witwatersrand has received an overwhelming number of 68 755 applicants for the 2016 intake.

Registrar Carol Crosley confirmed that by 7 January 38 913 applicants were 2015 Matriculants.

“There are around 14 879 past Matriculants who may have been upgrading or who were not studying this past year. We also have a large number of tertiary students transferring. The university will be admitting about 6 200 new students,” she explained.

She continued that applications for 2016 closed on 30 September last year. “We are not anticipating long queues as we have a self-service portal whereby students can check the status of their applications and they can phone the student call centre,” she elaborated.

She said the queues they had were for applicants who are following up on queries, including residence and possible National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding.

The university’s systems were in place to welcome new students. “We have provided comprehensive information on all the things they would need to know on our website,”said Crosley

The university has also provided all information on the website to assist parents and students during the admission.

Wits has a central student enrolment centre that manages all applications to the university. Registration of students who have been admitted also takes place in a central location.

The university will officially open on 8 February.
