Relief for matriculants as results released

Best performing district is Sedibeng East.

The matric results of 2015 are in and the bleak numbers show a significant drop in pass rate.

However, this did not stop some excited Roodepoort pupils from celebrating and will now prepare to embark on the next venture in their lives.

800,000 candidates sat for the exams, the largest group since 1994 but the 2015 matric exam national pass rate dropped to 70.7%.

This is down from 75.8% achieved in 2014.

The pass rate of Gauteng was 84.2%, just slightly behind the Western Cape who was the best performing province with an 84.7% pass rate.

No district in the Western Cape performed below 80% and the best overall matric pupil, Andrew Tucker, comes from SA College High in Cape Town.

The Free State was the third-best performing province with an 81.6% pass rate, followed by North West with 81.5%.Mpumalanga had a pass rate of 78.6%, the Northern Cape with 69.4%, Limpopo with 65.9%, and KwaZulu-Natal with 60.7%.

The worst performing province was the Eastern Cape with a pass rate of 56.8%.

Best performing district is Sedibeng East.

According to Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, the three worst performing provinces that are also the country’s three biggest rural provinces caused a 9% drop in the pass rate. They had 53% of the country’s pupils.
