ICT has helped Matric pupils: Lesufi

RANDPARK RIDGE – The Department of Education announced the 2015 Matric results this morning.

MEC for Education in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi said that the switch from traditional teaching to information and communications technology (ICT) yielded positive results.

He said that of the 28 000 bachelor degree passes, 17 000 are from the township schools.

The MEC was briefing the media ahead of the announcement of 2015 Gauteng Matric results in Rhema Bible Church North in Randpark Ridge.

He explained that the gap they wanted to close between the rich and the poor was indeed closing.

“It’s one thing that I was fearing. The only thing that was in my mind was whether our ICT intervention would work or not and from where I am standing, I am proud that it has worked,” he explained.

He further said that no districts within the province averaged less than 70 per cent. “In the top 10 districts in the country, seven come from Gauteng,” said Lesufi.

He said principals from the four worst performing schools in the province have left.
