What will you do to beat the heat? Share your solutions with the Record.

An unprecedented heat wave has been predicted to prevail on Wednesday 6, Thursday 7 and Friday 8 January.

Online weather services like AccuWeather.com and Google predict temperatures of 39ºC on Wednesday and Thursday, reporting the weather will be “sunny and very hot”.

On Friday temperatures are expected to lower to 34ºC as thunderstorms are expected over the weekend.

Forecaster Mbavhi Maliage told the Citizen the heatwave might be broken on Thursday when there will be a 60% chance of rain in Gauteng.

“We want to continue to make an appeal to everyone, including school children, to make sure they drink a lot of water and avoid sitting in the sun,” Maliage was quoted saying.

Consider the following precautionary measures during a heat wave:

• Drink more water, regardless of your activity level

• Avoid prolonged stay under the sun, if at all possible stay in the shade

• Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat or using an umbrella
